Programme Features:

This course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills in the production of Balloon Art and Stage Performance in a simulated working environment so that students   Through hands-on practices of balloon twisting and performance stage learning, students will experience the entire process of balloon arts and stage performance work.  As a result, they will gain a better understanding of Balloon Art and Stage Performance and foster good work habits and attitudes. Through learning activities and practice, students are able to have an in-depth understanding of the authentic working contexts of Balloon Art and Stage Performance.  The two modules “Social Behaviour” and “Personal and Social Development” enable students to enhance their aptitudes and develop their generic skills associated with the industry.

Course Features

The course places a dual emphasis on both theory and hands-on practice associated with Balloon Art & Stage Performance.  The related knowledge of the industry and the required generic skills of students with intellectual disabilities are integrated into the course framework which aims to well prepare students for their future adult life.  The course is designed in accordance with the learning abilities and the learning modes of students with mild intellectual disabilities.  To this end, the course content starts from the basics and is directly related to students’ life so as to make it easy for them to acquire the relevant knowledge and skills.  By learning through practice, students will have the opportunity to connect with the community and demonstrate what they have learned in the course; students’ generic skills associated with personal growth are enhanced.  In addition, summative assessments are designed to inform learning and teaching.  Accordingly, both instructors and students have a better understanding of the students’ learning progress and effectiveness and make appropriate adjustments to meet students’ learning needs.

Articulation Pathway

Upon completion of the course, students are able to:

  • further study for Clown Performing Arts and related courses; or
  • study other courses at YMCA College of Careers.

Year 1 (Total: 120 hours)

Module 1: Motor Coordination (4 hours)

  • Importance of motor coordination
  • Basic motor coordination training

Module 2: Balloon Art (40 hours)

  • Balloon art materials
  • Different ways of balloon knotting
  • Balloons decoration for events and banquets
  • Different kinds of tools and equipment for balloon knotting

Module 3: Social Behaviour (16 hours)

  • Career Aptitude
  • Cultivation of students’ whole-person development.
  • Independent Living Skills.

Module 4: The Occupational Safety and Health (3 hours)

  • Importance of the occupational safety and health
  • Common accident at work (I)
  • Accident prevention (I)

Module 5: Effective English (16 hours)

  • English vocabularies
  • English organization & structure
  • English grammar

Module 6: Magic show training and stage performance (28 hours)

  • Difference between indoor and outdoor performance venue
  • Stage and non-stage venue performance arrangement
  • Recognize the use of other auxiliary equipment
  • Precaution of the performance venue

Module 7: Personal and social development (12 hours)

  • Problem solving skills
  • Emotion management
  • Team work

Year 2 (Total: 120 Hours)

  • Making balloons of cartoon characters or other specific styles
  • Balloon knotting in different occasions (e.g. party / wedding / exhibition / banquet, etc.)
  • Balloon decoration for events or ceremonies
  • Site visit and practice of balloon knotting for decoration

Module 3: The occupational safety and health (6 hours)

  • Importance of the occupational safety and health
  • Common accidents at work (II)
  • Accident prevention (II)

Module 4: Workplace English (16 hours)

  • Common English Nouns in Industry

Module 5: Magic show training and stage performance (42 hours)
